In light of the escalating climate crisis worldwide, the search for clean, renewable energy is gaining momentum. Tarık Sarvan, Chairman of the Board of CW Enerji, points out that clean and sustainable energy is of great importance in this process and emphasizes that solar and hydrogen energy stand out as future energy sources.
Tarık Sarvan, Chairman of the Board of the Turkish energy brand CW Enerji, explains that sustainable energy solutions are increasingly gaining importance worldwide, and that solar and sustainable hydrogen are emerging as future energy sources. Sarvan emphasizes that the demand for renewable energy sources is rising daily in the fight against the global climate crisis and in achieving sustainable development goals. In this context, he highlights that the combination of solar and hydrogen energy is particularly important as a future energy solution.
He underscores the significance of these two energy sources with their renewable and environmentally friendly properties: “Solar energy is one of the most abundant and renewable energy sources in the world. Hydrogen is regarded as an excellent complement to solar energy.
In the search for energy storage solutions, hydrogen can be generated from renewable energy sources, stored, and later converted back into energy. One can say that solar and hydrogen energy are two fundamental elements in future energy systems.”
The Hydrogen Market Has Made Significant Progress in Recent Years
The hydrogen market has made significant progress globally in recent years and has attracted substantial investments. In 2024, investments in clean hydrogen projects have risen from $10 billion in 2020 to $75 billion, representing a sevenfold increase. Currently, there are over 1,500 projects in the hydrogen value chain. These projects cover various areas, from hydrogen production to infrastructure development.
Solution to Environmental Problems
Sarvan emphasizes that hydrogen and solar energy are gaining importance as solutions to environmental problems caused by fossil fuels. He explains that the combustion of hydrogen in fuel cells only produces water vapor, which offers great potential for reducing carbon emissions and achieving clean energy goals.
Sarvan highlights the important role of hydrogen in the transition to clean energy and states: “Alongside renewable energy sources like solar and wind, hydrogen has become one of the most discussed and significant energy carriers in recent years. In a world facing the climate crisis, clean, efficient, and sustainable energy sources are of utmost importance. Hydrogen and solar energy play a crucial role in the fight against the climate crisis. This means that solar and hydrogen energy occupy an extremely important position on the path to clean and sustainable energy.”
Sarvan: “Global Leadership in Green Hydrogen Is Not Difficult”
Sarvan explains that particularly sustainable hydrogen is a more environmentally friendly option compared to other hydrogen sources and that the EU is making significant investments in this area.
He points out that Turkey needs to make further progress in this field: “Our country has significant potential in the area of hydrogen. This potential must be utilized. Therefore, we need to continue expanding the infrastructure for renewable energy. The production of green hydrogen will increasingly come to the forefront in the coming years. In this context, both our academic institutions and companies in this sector have important tasks. Everyone should focus on this area. We are not hesitant to xpress our support for all academic work in this field. Our country has great potential in the production of green hydrogen. Additionally, it is a fact that Turkey has ratified the Paris Agreement, which means we need clearer goals for climate protection and the transition to energy supply.”
With Domestic Technologies, We Carry Turkey’s Flag to the World
Sarvan emphasizes the need to develop hydrogen technologies for a carbon-free energy future. He highlights that particularly sustainable hydrogen, derived from solar and wind energy, presents a great opportunity for energy storage solutions.
He states that CW Enerji is actively engaged in the production and storage systems for green hydrogen: “As we have for years, we place great importance on new technologies in all areas of renewable energy. CW Enerji exports technologies from Antalya to the whole world. Due to our belief in the increasing importance of producing and storing green hydrogen, we are also conducting active and scientific work in this field. With our work on hydrogen storage systems, we aim to store energy safely and efficiently and ensure a continuous energy supply. Hydrogen will play a crucial role in the transition to clean energy and has the potential to revolutionize the energy industry. The future lies in solar energy and hydrogen.”
We Are Intensively Engaged with Hydrogen Issues
Regarding the work of the ministry, Sarvan says: “At the beginning of last year, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources in Turkey published the 'Strategy and Development Plan for Turkish Hydrogen Technology.' In this development plan, very important visions have been outlined. We closely follow the work of our ministry. With this awareness, we at CW Enerji are intensively engaged with the topic of hydrogen. We are examining what we can do to harness solar energy during the day to produce and store hydrogen for later use as gas or in electrical form, whenever and wherever it is needed.”
Contribution to National Employment
“With about 1,500 employees, CW Enerji significantly contributes to the local workforce and supports the growth of the Turkish economy,” says Sarvan, adding: “With our high export capacity and sustainable energy projects, we contribute to the energy independence of our country and the development of the renewable energy sector. With our projects, we lead the development of the sector and significantly support the reduction of the current account deficit while also backing the goals of reducing Turkey's dependence on energy imports. To ensure a more sustainable world and the prosperity of future generations, we continue our energy investments tirelessly and will do our utmost to minimize our country's dependence on energy imports.”
