The 8th International Symposium on Social and Applied Gerontology was held at Akdeniz University. A plaque was presented to CW Enerjifor its contributions at the symposium.
The 8th International Social and Applied Gerontology Symposium, organised by Akdeniz University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Gerontology with the contributions ofCW Enerji , was held at Akdeniz University Atatürk Conference Hall. Prof. Dr. Terence Seedsman, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yılmaz Çoban, Founding Chairman of the Department of Gerontology Prof. Dr. İsmail Tufan, Mayor of Dinar and President of the National Council on Aging Saffet Acar, President of the Gerontology Association Emine Ayık Tufan, CW Enerji Board Representative Nihan Demirtaş, scientists from various countries attended the opening ceremony.
Delivering the opening speech, Prof. Dr. İsmail Tufan, Founding Chairman of the Department of Gerontology, said that the 8th Türkiye International Symposium on Social and Applied Gerontology is the embodiment of the aim to warn and inform local and central governments about demographic developments and to help them produce better social policies. Tufan underlined that the Gerontology Symposium, which tries to show that aging does not only mean loss of competence, but on the contrary, it can be a process associated with gains in competence, economic, social and psychic accumulations and their potential to be used on behalf of the individual and society, will also reveal the ever-changing new faces of old age. Prof. Dr. İsmail Tufan expressed his pleasure and pride in the traditionalisation of this symposium, which they believe is important for Türkiye, and thanked all participants.
Emine Ayık Tufan, President of the Gerontology Association, stated that the association was established in Antalya in 2005 in order to initiate and carry out applications by accepting the elderly as an asset, highlighting the social aspects of old age, solving problems specific to old age. Tufan stated that the aims of the association are to explain the science of Gerontology to the society and to identify and determine the needs in this field and to support the preparation of the ground for the necessary services and thanked everyone who contributed to the symposium.
Nihan Demirtaş, Representative of the Board of Directors ofCW Enerji, stated that their company is a production and service company operating in the photovoltaic energy production sector established in 2010 in Türkiye. Underlining that CW Enerji, as one of the first players in the solar energy sector in Türkiye, is the largest solar energy supplier in Türkiye, Africa and Europe, Demirtaş stated that their company has made a name for itself with social responsibility projects as well as trade. Stating that as CW Enerji, they continue to provide material and moral support to numerous aid and education projects with the awareness of social responsibility, Demirtaş said, ‘We are proud that our path intersects with such a symposium that will contribute to Turkish science. We wish all participants a fruitful symposium.’
After the opening speeches, a plaque of appreciation was presented to CW Enerjifor its contribution to the symposium. The plaque was received on behalf of CW Enerji by Nihan Demirtaş, CW Enerji Board Representative.
In the symposium, which continued after the plaque presentation, old age was discussed both as a problem and as an opportunity for the individual and society, and new concepts were put forward on what kind of old age should be created in the elderly world of the future.
